Introduction: How many types of semiconductor materials are used in outdoor solar light batteries? Look down, you will know!
When you mention semiconductor materials, you will naturally think of silicon and germanium. In fact, the types of semiconductor materials are extremely diverse, not just silicon and germanium. But silicon and germanium, especially silicon, are the most important and common semiconductor materials available today.
There are many types of semiconductor materials, and if divided according to their structure, they can be divided into three categories, single crystal, polycrystalline, and amorphous.
If divided according to its composition, it can be roughly divided into organic semiconductors and inorganic semiconductors, and inorganic semiconductors can be divided into elemental semiconductors and compound semiconductors.
Types of solar light semiconductors
(1) Elemental semiconductors From the periodic table, elemental semiconductors include silicon, germanium, boron, carbon, gray tin, phosphorus, ash, arsenic, sulfur, selenium, tellurium and iodine. There are 12 kinds of tin, antimony and arsenic. Only semiconductors are shown in specific solid phases. Although there are 12 kinds of semiconductors, it is difficult to prepare high-purity single-crystal element semiconductors. So far, only silicon, germanium and selenium have been applied in the actual industry. And only silicon and germanium are commonly used.
(2) Compound semiconductors can be classified into III-V semiconductors, II-V semiconductors, IV-VI semiconductors, V-VI semiconductors, oxide semiconductors, sulfide semiconductors, and rare earth compound semiconductors. There are many types of compound semiconductors, including binary and multi-components, especially binary compounds. It is now more important that silicon carbide (IV~VI compounds) and III-V compounds S, Se, Te, and A binary compound composed of Zn, A, and Hg. In addition to the above compound semiconductors, oxide semiconductors are also relatively large, such as copper oxide, zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, etc., which are oxide semiconductor materials.
In fact, the types of compound semiconductors are not limited to these, as well as solid solution semiconductors and glass-state semiconductors.
(1) Solid Solution Semiconductor Solid solution semiconductors are generally composed of two element semiconductors or two compound semiconductors. Silicon germanium alloy is a solid solution semiconductor. They are characterized by a band gap between the two semiconductors constituting the solid solution, which varies with the composition.
(2) Glass-state semiconductors The semiconductor materials described above are all crystalline, and when they melt, the semiconductor properties disappear. Glassy semiconductors differ from them in that they can be in a glassy state or in a crystalline state; when cooled, they are crystalline, and when melted, they are in a glassy state, so their semiconductor properties never disappear.
Binary and multi-component compound semiconductors, oxide semiconductors, glass semiconductors, and organic semiconductors, etc., these different compound semiconductors have different electrical properties, such as different electron mobility, band gap and light absorption coefficient, so the field of application thereof It is also different. Some are suitable for microwaves and some are suitable for power generation.
There are many types of compound semiconductors, especially binary compound semiconductors, and the number is more, but only gallium arsenide is common. The semiconductor material may be divided into a crystalline semiconductor and an amorphous semiconductor according to its crystal structure, in addition to the above components. It can also be divided into microelectronic materials, optoelectronic materials, photoelectric conversion (photovoltaic) materials, microwave materials, sensor materials, etc. according to the characteristics and functions of semiconductors.
